Wirklich glücklich ohne Handheld?

Bekanntlich geht es gerade ab im Handheldgeschäft. Besonders mit der PSP, besonders in Japan und besonders für Sony. Davor lief es rosig für den Nintendo DS - beide Handhelds waren also auf jeden Fall eine lohnende Investition. Dessen ungeachtet sagte jetzt Xbox-Chef Shane Kim in einem Interview bei Eurogamer.net:
I’m very happy we didn’t get into it, because launching a handheld platform is like launching another Xbox 360. [...] We don’t have any experience in that space. Our content assets don’t naturally lend themselves to driving success in that particular market. So we’re happy to let Sony and Nintendo slog it out. I do think mobile is probably the more important platform in the future, and the number of Windows mobile devices and hardware that’s capable of running Windows mobile in the future is really a compelling opportunity, and one where we don’t have to worry about launching a new hardware platform too.
Ja… irgendwie ein bisschen komisch. Natürlich hat er Recht damit, dass es Neuland wäre für Microsoft, die ja überhaupt neu im Konsolenbereich sind. Aber irgendwie war ja die PSP auch Neuland für Sony und wirkte lang nicht wie ein Kassenschlager. Dennoch ist sie am Ende erfolgreich und hat sich klar gegen die Konkurrenten durchgesetzt. Natürlich liegt es auch hier wieder daran, dass es ein Heimspiel in Japan ist, aber dennoch: glücklich darüber zu sein, dass die beiden Konkurrenten im Business Gewinne machen und man selbst leer ausgeht, das kann ich einem kapitalistischen Unternehmen und gerade Microsoft nicht ganz abnehmen.
